Peptides FAQs

Peptides FAQs with Dr. Jarod

By Dr. Jarod Ward, Functional Medicine | Crown Chiropractic

The question

I’m so confused!! Many holistic mindful people swear by going all natural etc. big guns for big things as needed of course. I keep seeing more and more chiropractic centers offering GLP1 and or peptides. I thought chiropractic care was against medications. (To a point of course). Many swear GLP are dangerous. And then there is HRT. I’m terrified to have to take anything forever and both of these options typically require life long scripts.

I understand there is a spectrum. I’m generally interested in learning. It can get so overwhelming trying lead a natural lifestyle and balancing when medication is needed.

Dr. Jarod’s answer

Couple of thoughts:

Peptides are synthetic

Peptides are synthetic. Which means they are as “natural” as the vitamin c that people buy at Costco, target, Whole Foods, etc. which is also synthetic. So I think a lot of people are already thinking they are doing something natural but they aren’t when it comes to their vitamin choices and purchases.

The grey area between pharmaceutical and natural

I view peptides and GLP1 as the grey area between pharmaceutical and natural. It is a synthetic compound used to drive and force a change in the body.

Fairly comparable levels of risk

I think people are not doing peptides safely. I also think people are also creating imbalances in their body with synthetic vitamins. I view these as honestly fairly comparable levels of risk. I know that may sound extreme but to those who don’t understand why I think that, that’s a conversation probably not for here.

If you are going to drive the car at “turbo”

People are doing way too many at too high of doses expecting their body to be in “turbo” mode forever and be ok. I prefer to help my patients who choose to use them do them safely. If you are going to drive the car at “turbo” you better give it premium fuel, excellent maintenance, etc. I’ve helped relieve and support their body eliminate many side effects from these things.

I could really take it or leave it

I don’t sell peptides generally and if I did it wouldn’t be a significant business line item for me, so I could really take it or leave it from a business stand point to be clear. A lot of doctors are doing it cuz they see $$. And it does get drastic results. But at what cost to the patient when they are giving way too huge of doses without properly nourishing the body.

In extreme cases they are helpful

I think in extreme cases they are helpful for patients with diabetes and uncontrolled weight gain or inflammation storms. And can be used safely in those situations. And I do think chiropractor and holistic people are people who would tend to think about the rest of the body as a whole while doing the peptides/GLP-1. And would probably manage the case way better than the med spa down the street who happens to have a medical director.

It is a grey area

But I understand and can relate to you. Like I said, it is a grey area. 🤷🏼‍♂️
